Alternatives’ Performance Space Dedicated The GB and Lexi Singh Performance Center at Alternatives’ Whitin Mill was dedicated on Saturday, November 10. Over 60 friends and family members attended a reception in Alternatives’ Heritage Gallery to celebrate the dedication. The performance center is the first space in the complex to be named for a benefactor and is already hosting theater performances, conferences, and trainings.
The Singh Performance Center will incorporate state of the art lighting and sound and theater seating for over 200 people. Designed to be adaptable, the space can be used with or without theater seating and with the stage in a variety of locations and configurations to accommodate performances, trainings or seminars.
Among those to speak at the dedication was Scott Rossiter, Volunteer Chair of Alternatives’ Capital Campaign Committee, “It was through the Singh’s support and motivation that we made a substantial jump in our capital campaign,” Rossiter said. “As we move past the $3.6 Million mark towards our goal of $4.2 million, we are honored to be putting their name to what was once a nameless, out of work red brick mill and is now, through their generosity, becoming a vibrant cultural center for the Blackstone Valley.”
Speaking on behalf of Alternatives’ Board of Directors and the individuals served by Alternatives, Peg George, Clerk of the Board, marveled that ”The performance center is already becoming the community treasure we all hoped it would be. It has already begun to show that it can bring people of all abilities together. Speaking for the individuals served by Alternatives, I would like to thank you for your generous gift. You guys are the greatest.”
“It was our lucky day when Lexi and I were introduced to Alternatives,” said GB Singh during the dedication. “We were impressed by Alternatives commitment to providing the training and supports people need to become productive members of society. As this complex nears its completion and the capital campaign nears its goal; we are reminded that it is true that ‘If you can dream of it, it can be done.’ Lexi and I congratulate Alternatives in achieving this dream”
Following the speeches the crowd applauded as GB and Lexi Singh unveiled the sign designating the new theater as the GB and Lexi Singh Performance Center. They then enjoyed a performance of Oscar Wilde’s “The Importance of Being Earnest” performed by the Algonkuin Theatre Company.
