RESIDENTIAL SERVICES
GROUP LIVING
Each of our community residences provides a safe and supportive, yet challenging, environment for between four and eight people. In these small, homelike environments, people learn how to apply the practical skills of daily living in real-life settings. A number of our residences are barrier-free to accommodate people with accessibility needs. Some residences specialize in serving the aging, young adults, or people who benefit from behavioral supports and from more intensive supervision. Alternatives’ dedicated staff tailors training and support based upon the personal needs and preferences of each resident. By design, our community residences are transitional in nature. Therefore, from the time an individual enters the program, he or she is encouraged to think about future goals, to develop the readiness to achieve them, and to work actively on recovery.
SUPPORTED LIVING
Our Supported Living program offers individuals the opportunity to live successfully in their own apartments. Some supported-living settings provide intensive support and training and are considered transitional, while other supported-living settings are much less intensive and are considered permanent.
People either live alone or share an apartment with a friend while receiving intermittent supports by a team of visiting counselors. Visits can vary in frequency, duration, and time of day, seven days per week, as needs and circumstances change. Individuals periodically revise their visiting schedules with their counselors. The purpose of the program is to help each person over time develop the skills, community connections, and friendships that will sustain successful community living and recovery.
