RESIDENTIAL SERVICES
GROUP LIVING
Each of our community residences provides a safe, nurturing home environment for between four and six people. In these small, intimate groups, people learn how to apply the practical skills of daily living in real life settings. Many of our residences are barrier-free to accommodate people with accessibility needs. Others serve people who may be older and frail, or have specialized medical needs. Still others specialize in serving people who benefit from behavioral supports and more intensive supervision. Alternatives’ dedicated staff provides individually tailored training and support based upon the personal needs and preferences of each resident.
SHARED LIVING
Our Shared Living program creates the opportunity for an individual to become part of a host family, which acts as a direct connection to the rest of the community. Each household is a place where all members experience the mutual benefits and responsibilities of life sharing as they grow together. Within their common daily routines, the family provides personal assistance and training as needed. Alternatives’ visiting nurses and traveling counselors carefully monitor each situation and offer expert assistance to all as needed.
SUPPORTED LIVING
Our Supported Living program offers people the opportunity to receive the training and support necessary to successfully live in their own apartments. People either live on their own, or share an apartment with a friend, while they receive intermittent supports by a team of visiting counselors. People periodically revise their personally tailored visiting schedules with their counselors. Visits can vary in frequency, duration, and time of day, seven days per week, as needs and circumstances change. The purpose of the program is to help each person over time develop the skills, community connections, and friendships that will sustain successful community living.
